I gave a talk for the Tech Academy
I was asked to give a talk for the Tech Academy to aspiring and new Junior Developers. I chose to talk about what comes next after getting the job and the lessons I learnt

How It Happened
The Tech Academy is an online bootcamp offering people the chance to do self paced learning and find their way into the tech industry.
When I was invited to do a talk for their students I made a list of all the possible topics I might like to talk about and then went through one by one trying to categorise them down to the most universally applicable lesson. My list essentially came down to two things:
- The foundations required to support growth
- The flexibility required to support change

Follow Up Thoughts
- Some of the key points were restructured into this blog post: Own the mess you didn’t make
- I reflected on an answer I gave to a question about burnout here: You are not a software engineer: how I protect myself from burnout
